France in America
by W.J. Eccles

YOU can own this 1972 first edition – bid NOW!

You're bidding on a first edition of W.J. Eccles' France in America. If you're reading this, you probably either collect or deal in old and out-of-print books and know more about them than I do, or you may just be a student looking for a good deal on a great reference. That said, I won't bore you with a long sales pitch. What you see is what you get - all images are of the book being sold, and speak for themselves. Please click on the images for larger pics in a new window... the next-best thing to flipping through the pages yourself!

Hard Cover

Special/notable features of this item: some slight damage to the dust cover (a line of dirt on the back, some crinkling at the bottom of the spine, and a faint vertical line/crease on the front), untrimmed page edges (most visible in the Illustrations image, the non-bound side edges of each signature have been left rough).

Beautiful condition – comes from a good home!

This is the first of many books I will be listing for a family member. There are more to come, all from a college educator/scholar's collection of approximately 2500 books including Western Americana, early French and Italian travel and exploration in America, Italian history, immigrant history, Italian-American literature, and classic Italian literature. Most have been in storage for 30 years. Condition is as noted in the text above and/or shown in the images, but most of these books are in pristine shape for their age - they have been well taken care of. The majority of the imagery is from flatbed scans of the books, with care taken to preserve the spines and bindings (i.e., minimal pressure when spread flat). The shadows you see near the bound edge of pages are due to the scanning technique, not discoloration or degradation of the paper, and bleed-through from the back side of pages is slightly exaggerated due to the high-intensity scan light (i.e., the lighting makes it look worse than it actually is). Overall, the scans should be relatively accurate in reproducing color as long as the background of this page appears white on your monitor. I normally buy and sell photographic and computer equipment on eBay, know the value of honestly representing items, and go to great pains to ensure I point out any known flaws. I don't like surprises when I buy, and figure that you don't, either.

A few words about the books' owner: These books are her late husband's collection, and have been in the family since he first acquired them. She's asked me to offer them here on eBay with the hope that people who will appreciate and treasure them as much as he did will have the opportunity to win and own them rather than release the lot to a dealer or library that will pick the best and toss the rest.

Winning bidder will pay actual shipping cost for method of choice (Priority Mail, Book Rate, etc.). PayPal is preferred, but money orders and checks are OK, too. Please e-mail me with any questions about this item, and feel free to check out my feedback and other auctions (I'm working to clear out the clutter here before Christmas, so there'll be a variety of other items listed over the next few weeks including older 35mm cameras, some Polaroid SX-70 cameras, electronics, and other odds & ends).

As always, thanks for your interest and bid – and don't forget to have fun!!
